Claude Sonnet 5 goes GA in GitHub Copilot

GitHub made Claude Sonnet 5 — Anthropic's latest Sonnet-class model — generally available in GitHub Copilot on June 30 for Pro, Pro+, Max, Business and Enterprise plans.

In GitHub's internal testing, Sonnet 5 showed strong results across coding scenarios, with particularly strong performance on CLI-style tasks, excellent prompt-cache utilization and competitive latency at lower effort levels — a solid "fast but capable" pick for everyday development and agentic workflows.

• Selectable in the model picker across: VS Code, Visual Studio, Copilot CLI, Copilot cloud agent, GitHub Copilot App, github.com, GitHub Mobile (iOS/Android), JetBrains, Xcode, Eclipse.
• Gradual rollout — check back if you don't see it yet.
• Billed at provider list pricing under Usage Based Billing.
• Copilot Business/Enterprise admins enable it via model policy settings; like other Sonnet models in Copilot, Sonnet 5 operates under Zero Data Retention (ZDR).
• Same day, GitHub also shipped Copilot Agent inside JetBrains AI Assistant (June 30).
